Context and Relevance
Tuberculosis and lung cancer remain major global public health challenges. Although the association between latent tuberculosis and lung cancer has been widely discussed, the coexistence of active tuberculosis and lung malignancy is uncommon and presents significant diagnostic and clinical challenges.
In settings with moderate to high tuberculosis prevalence, differentiating between infectious and malignant lymph node involvement is particularly complex and has direct implications for staging, treatment decisions, and patient outcomes.
Focus of the Article
This case report examines:
• A rare coexistence of tuberculous lymphadenitis and bronchopulmonary adenocarcinoma
• Diagnostic challenges in distinguishing infectious and malignant lymph node involvement
• The role of CT-guided biopsy and histopathological confirmation
• Implications for TNM classification and staging accuracy
• Integrated management approaches combining anti-tuberculosis and oncological treatment
Clinical Implications
The coexistence of tuberculosis and lung cancer may lead to diagnostic errors, particularly in lymph node assessment. Accurate diagnosis is essential to avoid misclassification and inappropriate treatment strategies.
This case highlights the importance of histopathological confirmation and multidisciplinary evaluation in complex clinical presentations.
